There are BMW owners, and then there are seriously performance minded BMW owners. Those with an increased appreciation for speed and craftsmanship often choose to buy M-Series cars, a range known for their serious performance abilities. However, sometimes the BMW factory tuning simply isn't enough, and there are a select few who choose to venture even further into the realm of high-end custom tuning.
The 2007 AC Schnitzer BMW Z4 M Coupe is a serious car for those who simply don't feel the M-Series modifications go far enough. Since this is a tuning company, you can elect to purchase individual parts to your liking or buy the complete set for a full AC Schnitzer tuner vehicle.
First up, the aerodynamics package gives the car a much more serious, race-bred look. Carbon fiber front spoiler elements can be joined to the stock front bumper with aluminum supports, effectively creating the look of a new front bumper. A side skirt package and rear diffuser complete the ground effects, but there are also less obvious improvements available, including modified side grilles, a small roof wing, and a chrome front grille. Since we're talking about the coupe version, there's also a three-piece rear wing for those who want the entire AC Schnitzer aero package, and it's not available for the roadster (it has its own less extreme wing).
There are a plethora of parts available for increased performance. You can have a short shift kit installed for faster shifts, a high performance braking system, and there are also a few different options for exhaust tips and silencers. For the suspension, there are various springs and shocks that can be installed, a special sway bar set, and a "Racing" aluminum strut brace.
For a performance look on the inside, the interior can be fitted with AC Schnitzer racing seats, carbon fiber pedals with a matching dead pedal, a new shift knob and hand brake handle, and a carbon fiber and aluminum trim package. The aluminum bits come in a silver or black anodized finish. There is also a matching steering wheel that can be installed without losing airbag functionality. The look is finished off with AC Schnitzer embossed floor mats.
The whole package is completed with AC Schnitzer wheels. You can purchase Type II, Type III, Type IV and Type V styles in 17", 18", 19" and 20" versions. However, the official show car (called the Profile) was seen with 20" forged alloy AC Schnitzer Type V wheels, so it's safe to assume that customers looking for the "official" look from the press photos will opt for this style. They come in 9.0J x 20" for the front and 10.0J x 20" for the rear. The show car was featured with 235/30 ZR 20 tires for the front and 295/25 ZR 20 tires for the rear, but it's been suggested that customers opt for 245/30 ZR 20 and 285/25 ZR 20 sizes for properly balanced handling.
