It’s nothing unusual when a stock car is converted to a full-blooded racing car. Car manufacturers such as Audi, BMW, Aston Martin or Porsche can prove this theory with its wide range of hot models. But what happens if someone new without any relevant racing history appears literally from nowhere. Of course, speculations as if this newbie is possible to beat traditional rivals with rich history? Whatever, if the car manufacturer has enough experience in the „stock“ world, the chances are high. And more, if these cars have enough power and dispose with elegant design, there’s no time to think about any failure. There’s a new player on the scene – the Dutch sports car manufacturer Spyker with C8 GT2R.
WHO IS SPYKER?
The history of this brand started in 1898 when to brtohers Jacobus and Hendrik-Jan Spijkers built their first Benz engine. From that moment, they started to focuse on 4-wheels machines, because their beginnings were connected with airplanes. In 1914, today’s badge was created, a wheel with a propeler. And in 2000, they introduced the first sporting model C8. Since that year, Spyker continues in this new era of sports cars with models sucha s C8 Double 12 S, C12 Zagato ot C12 Spyder. But today is year 2007, a different date and different world. So Spyker wants to show everyone what’s its real potential. As the base of this potential, it has chosen a solid C8 Spyder, the car full of dynamics and elegance, with a powerful, 400hp engine. So this is what I call the heart of the matter.

Spyker C8 Spyder GT2R
In March 2005, on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of International Motor Show of Geneva, the Spyker Company presented its new pro racing car - Spyker C8 Spyder GT2R. This racing super sport comes from the original C8 Spyder created by Spyker Squadron. The new racing equipment has no only a perfect design and distinctive bodykit, but also a very powerful power plant inside – the center is a 3.8 liter Audi V8 engine used in all road cars. The racing version of the engine was modified and then tested by the technical team Spyker Squadron with Peter Van Erp at the head. The engine is cooperating with a 6-speed sequential transmission. With additional improvements, the engine now produces 450 hp and 420 Nm of torque. 100km/h speed can be done in 3.8 seconds and the top speed is about 300 km/h. With this improved „stock“, the Spyker team has already appeared as number-two in a final row. It was 1000km LMES race of Nurburgring (class LMGT) in September 2005 in Germany and in November 2005 in Dubai at the race of FIA FT. Spyker is very proud of these results and it wants to be better. To do this, it would like to compete in the races such as Sebring, 24-Hours of Le Mans and some FIA GT competitions. Good luck!
